Ever faced a challenge so daunting that it made you think, ‘I can’t do this’ ‘I can’t keep going’? For me, it was transforming my love for the ocean into a thriving business, all while preserving the beauty and serenity of my island home. Growing up in a lobster-fishing family on the Abrolhos Islands, I knew the sea’s hardships and rewards intimately. My mission? To create jewellery that not only captured this beauty but also told a story of resilience and elegance.
Imagine waking up to the sound of waves gently lapping against the shore, the scent of salt in the air, and the endless horizon stretching out before you. For me, this is not just a scene from a postcard; it’s my life. The pristine waters and untouched beauty of the islands became my muse. I spent countless hours by the shores, captivated by the rhythm of the sea and the treasures it held. My connection to the ocean is as deep as the waters themselves, laying the foundation for my journey into the world of pearls.
My love affair with pearls began after my years working on fishing boats. I was presented with a rare opportunity to continue to develop our family’s pearl farm – it was quite a transition. I was fascinated by the delicate beauty of pearls and the meticulous process required to cultivate them. A passionate mission to cultivate our own pearls, continuing to lead the establishment of our pearl farm in the remote waters of the Abrolhos Islands. Here, amidst the breathtaking beauty of my island home, I dedicated myself to nurturing each oyster with care and patience.
But let me tell you, coaxing pearls from oysters is no easy feat. It’s like trying to get teenagers to clean their room - challenging, time-consuming, and often unpredictable. There were days when nothing seemed to go right, when the seas were rough, and the oysters stubborn. But every time I held a freshly harvested pearl in my hand, all those challenges melted away, replaced by a profound sense of accomplishment.
